A Fresh Perspective for QLD

Below you will find a little more about the issues I'm passionate about...

  • Keeping Children Active

By enhancing the accessibility and affordability of social activities such as sports and the arts, particularly through backing local sports clubs, families can enable children to explore their innate talents. Whether it's pursuing their passion for a particular sport or engaging in music lessons like piano, these opportunities can divert children from excessive screen time and detrimental social media usage. Instead, they can foster genuine connections and develop new friendships through real-world interactions, all while maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. As Brisbane gears up to host the 2032 Olympics, let's ignite children's enthusiasm and motivation to participate in these enriching experiences!

  • Housing and Rental Affordability

We can foster a more inclusive and equitable housing market by implementing a range of policies that address the needs of both renters and prospective homeowners. For renters, measures can be put in place to alleviate financial burdens such as rental assistance programs, and incentives for landlords to maintain affordable housing units. Additionally, implementing longer-term solutions to address the supply of housing is crucial. This can include initiatives to increase the availability of housing, providing incentives and reducing the costs of entry in the market. By taking a common-sense approach we can ensure that everyone has a fair chance to achieve the dream of homeownership and access stable, affordable housing options.

  • Business and Economy

Strengthening small businesses is essential for fostering economic growth and resilience in our communities. By providing targeted support, such as access to capital, technical assistance, and mentorship programs, we empower entrepreneurs to thrive and create jobs. Additionally, streamlining regulations and reducing bureaucratic hurdles can enable small businesses to operate more efficiently and focus on innovation and expansion. Embracing diversity and inclusion within the small business ecosystem also enriches our communities and drives innovation. Through collaborative efforts between government, industry, and local stakeholders, we can create an environment where small businesses can flourish, driving economic prosperity and vitality for all.

  • Energy Affordability

Improving energy affordability in times of rising costs is essential. Households and businesses can significantly reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources, lowering electricity bills and mitigating the impact of fluctuating utility rates. Integrating battery storage for example, allows for the efficient capture and storage of excess solar energy, providing reliable power in the evenings. Through incentives, subsidies, and innovative financing options, we can make solar and battery technologies more accessible to all and contribute to a cleaner, more affordable energy landscape.

  • Reducing Inflation

Fostering competition within markets and removing barriers to entry for businesses can mitigate price hikes by encouraging efficiency and innovation. Investing in infrastructure and improving productivity across industries can also alleviate supply constraints and prevent cost-push inflation. Furthermore, promoting consumer education on budgeting and financial management can empower individuals to make informed purchasing decisions. By employing a multifaceted approach that addresses both demand and supply-side factors, we can work towards achieving sustainable price stability.

  • Tough on Crime

Being tough on crime entails implementing robust policies aimed at preventing and combating criminal activities to ensure the safety of the community. Stringent law enforcement measures, including increased police presence, proactive crime prevention initiatives and additionally, advocating for harsher penalties for offenders, particularly for violent crimes and repeat offenders, sends a clear message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated. By prioritising public safety and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions, we can create safer neighbourhoods and instill confidence in the criminal justice system.

Getting Kids Active

As a parent to three sons and one daughter, and serving as Head Coach for Junior Boys' Hockey and Basketball teams, as well as Women's Senior teams, I grasp the significance of promoting activity, involvement, motivation, and well-being. I am convinced that sports offer a remarkable avenue for steering children away from screens and towards fitness and health.

In my view, sports are instrumental in nurturing camaraderie, fortitude, and fundamental life skills like teamwork, persistence, discipline, and resilience. Personally, I'm also honoured to represent QLD in the State Hockey Team.
